Consortial Lectures Program

About the Program
Consortial Professors Program:
The goal of the Consortial Professors program is to promote collegiality among the faculty of the LVAIC member institutions through the exchange of distinctive courses and lectures. More than 100 Consortial Professors have participated in the program since its inception in 1985.

Semester-Long Courses
The goal of the program is to have each participating LVAIC institution "import" one course and "export" one course per academic year. For example, DeSales University might export a course in the Fall semester to Lafayette College and import a course from Moravian College in the Spring semester. Courses that are either distinctive or from the upper division are excellent candidates for this program. The course is generally considered part of a professor's regular academic load, unless other arrangements are made at the home institution. A Consortial Professor teaching a semester-long course will receive a $650. honorarium and reimbursement for mileage (at the prevailing IRS rate) at the completion of the semester. The planning process for a semester exchange begins in the fall of the academic year with the provosts and academic deans announcement to department chairs/heads of exchange opportunities in the next academic year. The department chairs arrange for import and export exchanges for the upcoming year, with approval coming form the Council of Provosts and Academic Deans. Lehigh University generally does not participate in semester consortial professors program.

Individual Lectures or Presentations
Faculty at LVAIC institutions are invited to give a one-time, individual guest presentation in regularly scheduled courses taught by colleagues at other LVAIC colleges. Any professor may offer a profile of a presentation or a lecture that will serve as the resource for hosts seeking to invite speakers/presenters. Any professor in the LVAIC consortium may request a guest presenter. The assignments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. This program can support up to 20 guest presenters per academic year. An honorarium is provided for a one-time guest lecturer.

Professors may give a traditional lecture, or a demonstration, conduct a group interactive experience, lead an off-campus field trip, or any other format or module that is pedagogically appropriate. In order to offer this opportunity as widely as possible, each professor who will be a guest in a course is limited to making two guest presentations per academic year.

If you would like to offer a one time lecture or presentation at another LVAIC institution, please call or email the LVAIC office:

Bonnie Lynch: 610-625-7892 lynche@lvaic.org

Mary Ann Williams: 610-625-7889 willamsma@lvaic.org

Please include the topic of your presentation, appropriate course level of lecture, and days of the week that are most suitable. the office will post on this web site all topics offered for presentation.

Or please feel free to contact the professor at the home institution to make arrangements.

All full-time faculty at LVAIC member institutions are invited to participate in the Consortial Professors Semester Program.

If interested in exporting a course to another LVAIC college or university, contact your Department Chair/Head. Please provide a course title and brief description, the course level and your preference for teaching the course in the Fall or Spring semester of the next academic year.

The LVAIC Council of Provosts and Academic Deans must approve all semester exchanges in the winter prior to the academic year in which the course is to be taught.

Lehigh University does not participate in the semester consortial professor program.

If you would like to invite a specific professor to give a one-time lecture or presentation to your class, you may contact that professor directly to make arrangements or phone or email the LVAIC office

Either Bonnie Lynch or Mary Ann Williams can assist you in making arrangements.
