Health Insurance Consortium
In 2003, Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Moravian College and Muhlenberg College formed the LVAIC Health Insurance Trust. This arrangement utilized a fully funded model while offering the ability for each college to have a customized plan. After several years of participation in this arrangement, the schools moved to a self-funded model.
Effective January 1, 2009, DeSales University, Moravian College and Muhlenberg College pooled their health insurance programs under a self-funded health insurance plan. The program delivers various advantages, including:
- Cost savings
- Better long-term management of health care costs
- Effective risk management using a stop-loss design (plans are a combination of self funding and insurance) Participating members retain 100% savings from the wellness programs and lower claim utilizations generated by their plan designs.
- High-level coverage for affordable pricing
